ASUS Memo Pad HD 7 stuck

Hi all, hope someone can help me:

I got an ASUS Memo Pad HD 7 (ME173X). I bought it yesterday, and after turning it on and doing the initial setup, it asked me whether i wanted to update the Android OS, i said yes, it downloaded the update, and since then it’s been stuck showing the Android robot animation with the little blue polygon spinning, and a text that reads "Installing system update…". It’s completely unresponsive, i can’t turn it off pressing the on/off button (no matter how long i keep it pressed). If i let the battery die, it will turn off, naturally, but as soon as i plug it to the wall socket again, it goes back to this infernal loop.

If i press the on/off button shortly, it will show a few lines of text over the android robot, those lines read as follows:

Installing update…
Verifying current system…
Removing unneeded files…
Patching system files…
Patching boot image…
Unpacking new files…
Unpacking new recovery…
Symlinks and permissions…
Patching remaining system files…

It does this in a continuous loop, it’s been doing it for the last 18 hours or so. I have contacted my local Asus support, they’ve sent me their "Wipe reset data android procedure", but as step #1 is turning the tablet off, which is not happening, it won’t work. They suggest an RMA, which takes long, so i was wondering wether anyone here would be able to suggest a different approach?

Thanks in advance!
